Errol Spence Jr returns to the ring after a 16-month absence looking to preserve his perfect record.
Spence Jr became world champion in May 2017 when he outclassed and stopped Kell Brook in the 11th to win the IBF title in Brook’s hometown.
He followed that up with a seventh-round stoppage of Lamont Peterson in his first defence.
‘The Truth’ made even quicker work of his second defence, stopping Carlos Ocampo in the first round, but he has not stopped an opponent since.
Spence Jr earned a unanimous decision win over Mikey Garcia in March 2019 and then added another title to his collection later that year.
He beat Shawn Porter by split decision to become IBF and WBC welterweight world champion in September 2019.
Spence Jr has fought just once more since then, beating Danny Garcia via unanimous decision in December 2020.
That victory took his perfect record to 27-0, with 21 of those victories coming by way of stoppage.
Yordenis Ugas Form
Yordenis Ugas is looking to register the biggest win of his career to add the WBC and IBF titles to his WBA (Super) crown.
Ugas first challenged for a welterweight title in March 2019 and his quest ended in failure.
The Cuban fighter dropped a split decision to Shawn Porter in a bout for the WBC crown, but he has responded to that setback.
He claimed a unanimous decision win over Omar Figueroa Jr four months later to get back on track.
Ugas then registered a seventh-round stoppage of Mike Dallas Jr before earning a split decision win over Abel Ramos to cap off a successful 2020.
’54 Milagros’ had one outing in 2021, extending his win streak to four fights by beating a legend.
Ugas claimed a unanimous decision win over Manny Pacquiao took his professional record to 27-4.
Of his 27 victories, 15 of them have come via the judges’ scorecards, while all four losses have come by decision.
Verdict
Errol Spence Jr has been out of the ring for a while so he is likely to need a few rounds to get going.
But once he gets going, Spence Jr is expected to cement his status as one of boxing’s best fighters.
