David Benavidez Form

David Benavidez is the current WBC interim light-heavyweight champion with a professional record of 29-0 (24 KOs).

Benavidez moved up to light-heavyweight after a successful run at super-middleweight that saw him twice become world champion.

He completed his first climb to the top of the super-middleweight division in September 2017 when he beat Ronald Gavril by split decision to win the vacant WBC belt.

The 28-year-old American then won the rematch by unanimous decision, only to be later stripped of the title due to a failed drug test.

Benavidez regained the title in September 2019 when he stopped Andre Dirrell in the ninth round, only to be stripped of the belt once again when he failed to make weight for his first defence.

He stopped Roamer Alexis Angelo in the 10th round of that fight, and then went on to knock out Ronald Ellis in the 11th and Kyrone Davis in the seventh to earn a fight for the interim belt.

‘El Bandera Roja’ stopped David Lemieux in the third to win the WBC interim title, and successfully defended it with a points win over Caleb Plant and a sixth-round stoppage of Demetrius Andrade.

Benavidez did not challenge for the full title though, instead moving up to light-heavyweight last year to beat Oleksandr Gvozdyk on points to win the WBC interim title.

David Morrell Form

David Morrell is the WBA (Regular) light-heavyweight champion with a perfect professional record of 11-0 (9 KOs).

Morrell made his professional debut in 2019, and in only his third professional outing he won the WBA interim super-middleweight title by beating Lennox Allen on points.

He was later upgraded to WBA (Regular) champion status and made six straight defences of the crown.

The 27-year-old Cuban knocked out Mario Abel Cazares in the first round in his first defence, and then recorded back-to-back fourth-round knockouts of Alantez Fox and Kalvin Henderson.

Morrell then stopped Yamaguchi Falcao in the first and Sena Agbeko in the second, before making the move up to light-heavyweight last year.

He enjoyed a successful debut in his new weight class, beating Radivoje Kalajdzic on points to win the vacant WBA (Regular) light-heavyweight title.

Verdict

Few men in boxing throw with the volume and accuracy that David Benavidez does.

And while it may not be enough to take out David Morrell, we expect it to be enough to earn him a decision.
